Tibetan Modern Art: Bridging the Secular & Sacred

With Tsherin Sherpa and Menpa Phuntsog Wangmo

Today we welcome an intriguing artist whose work integrates the unique essence of classical Tibetan artwork with the contemporary environment of modern global culture. Tsherin Sherpa works from his traditional training in Tibetan Thangka painting, creating a heightened dialogue where Buddhist icons and global affairs can renegotiate into a mirror-like transmutation. His work expresses themes of the Himalayan Diaspora, the Buddhist Dharma, and today’s world. Through his evocative and brilliant art, Tsherin Sherpa bridges the sacred and the secular, past history and contemporary, classical and modern artistic approaches.
