Our guest this week, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist Dr. Aleksandra Phillips, shares insights from her decades of work in the modern science of children’s health and wellness. Special guest Ilaria Faccioli, professional counselor and certified instructor of “Kumar Kumari” yoga for children, shares methods for harmonizing energy and coordinating breath with movement for the youth. Our Host Menpa Phuntsog Wangmo shares Tibetan Medicine theory on pediatric health and balancing the elemental energies.
Dr. Aleksandra Phillips
Dr. Aleksandra Phillips is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Cambridge Health Alliance. She is the former Medical Director at Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence, Rhode Island, and has practiced at several other prestigious medical centers.
Dr. Phillips completed her Psychiatry residency at Tulane University School of Medicine. She completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship and studied Comparative Neuroanatomy at George Mason University Krasnow Institute for Evolution of Cognition.
Dr. Phillips completed a Certification Program in Global Mental Health: Trauma & Recovery at Harvard University. She is a current student at the Shang Shung School of Tibetan Medicine Four-Year Program.
Ilaria Faccioli
Ilaria Faccioli is a professional counselor with more than 10 years of experience working with adults, children and adolescents. Her approach focuses on the integration of body, breath and mind therapies to restore psychic and emotional balance.
In 2008 she finished her training in Enneatype Psychology with Dr. Claudio Naranjo, and in 2012 she was accredited as a systemic-family counselor.
Since 2008, after meeting the Tibetan master Namkhai Norbu, whom she considers her spiritual guide, she has been practicing and studying Tibetan Yoga of Movement (Yantra Yoga) and Traditional Tibetan Medicine under the supervision of Fabio Andrico and Menpa Phuntsog Wangmo, both disciples of Namkhai Norbu. In 2016 she was authorized to teach Kumar Kumari (yoga for boys and girls), and was authorized to teach the 8 movements of Yantra Yoga in 2020.
Katya Schmookler
A Khaita Joyful Dances instructor, Katya has been on a spiritual journey for over 10 years, and has been bringing presence and awareness into all areas of her life. After having her first child 6 years ago she got passionate about child development and parent child relationships. She’s been learning from Waldorf and Montessori teachers, as well as child psychologists, how to live harmoniously with her kids and help other families. She is trained in Mindful Schools K-12 Curriculum and is currently enrolled in a Parent coaching certification program. Katya advocates for play-based, nature-inspired, experiential and child-led learning, while also bringing attention to parents’ self-care, inner work and loving, respectful connection with their children.
Menpa Phuntsog Wangmo
Menpa Phuntsog Wangmo is a practitioner of Traditional Tibetan Medicine, with over 30 years of experience in clinical practice as well as teaching. She received her advanced degree from the Lhasa University School of Traditional Medicine
Menpa Wangmo is the Director of the Shang Shung Institute School of Tibetan Medicine. She teaches Tibetan Medicine around the world, developing programs and teaching students in the USA, Spain, Italy, Russia, and many places.
Menpa Phuntsog Wangmo is the Co-Founder of the American Tibetan Medical Association, ATMA, Tibetan Medicine professional organization.
