Tibetan Medicine Today: Traditional Tools for Modern Healthcare

With Menpa Namgyal Qusar and Menpa Phuntsog Wangmo

This week we welcome an outstanding medical practitioner, researcher, and teacher, Menpa Namgyal Qusar. Traditional Tibetan Medicine offers a wealth of practical tools and theoretical knowledge to address the health concerns of today’s world. Menpa Qusar shares insight from his decades of experience in clinical practice and university research on Tibetan Medicine.

We will ask Menpa Qusar about recent research projects, the modern use of Tibetan herbal formulas, and the future of Tibetan Medicine. Our Host, Menpa Phuntsog Wangmo shares her experience using Tibetan Medicine to benefit modern health challenges. She will also discuss the philosophical foundations which make Tibetan Medicine a unique and beautiful ornament of our global cultural heritage.

Namgyal Qusar

Menpa Namgyal Qusar is a teacher, researcher and an established clinical practitioner of Tibetan Medicine. He received the degree of Menrampa (equivalent to an MD) from Dharamsala Men-tsee-khang College in 1997. Menpa Qusar spent many years at Dharamsala Men-tsee-khang College working on new research and development projects. Menpa Qusar is a visiting professor of Tibetan medicine at Norbulingka Academy of Tibetan Culture, Dharamsala since 2001 and the Founder Director of Qusar Tibetan Healing Centre, in Sidhpur, Dharamsala. From 2004-2006, he worked as a general secretary and registrar of the Central Council of Tibetan Medicine, Dharamsala.
Menpa Namgyal Qusar has widely travelled to more than 19 countries for Seminars, Workshops and Conferences. He is also one of the key resource persons on Tibetan Medicine Training and Courses to Tibetan Medicine Physicians. He was also invited to speak at the International Conference on Tibetan Medicine, held at Harvard Medical School in October 2017.
Menpa Namgyal Qusar is a recipient of Gold Medal from Board of Alternative Medicine, Calcutta in 1997 and an Outstanding Award from Men-tsee-khang, Dharamsala in 2016.

Menpa Phuntsog Wangmo

Menpa Phuntsog Wangmo is a practitioner of Traditional Tibetan Medicine, with over 30 years of experience in clinical practice as well as teaching. She received her advanced degree from the Lhasa University School of Traditional Medicine

Menpa Wangmo is the Director of the Shang Shung Institute School of Tibetan Medicine. She teaches Tibetan Medicine around the world, developing programs and teaching students in the USA, Spain, Italy, Russia, and many places.

Menpa Phuntsog Wangmo is the Co-Founder of the American Tibetan Medical Association, ATMA, Tibetan Medicine professional organization.
