Provocations & the Pandemic
With Menpa Malcolm Smith and Menpa Phuntsog Wangmo

This week we welcome a prolific translator of Tibetan texts, and graduate of the Shang Shung School of Tibetan Medicine, Menpa Malcolm Smith. Menpa Malcolm will guide us through the fascinating Tibetan Medicine theory of spirit provocation disorders. Known as “don nad” (གདོན་ནད།), this branch of Tibetan Medicine study relates with many imbalances and diseases, including the current COVID-19 global pandemic. Our ongoing Host, Menpa Phuntsog Wangmo, shares her experience and expertise in this dynamic aspect of medical science.


Malcolm Smith

Malcolm Smith has been a student of the Great Perfection teachings since 1992. His main Dzogchen teachers are Chogyal Namkhai Norbu and the late Kunzang Dechen Lingpa. He is a veteran of a traditional three-year solitary Tibetan Buddhist retreat, a published translator of Tibetan Buddhist texts, and was awarded the Acharya degree by the Sakya Institute in 2004. He graduated in 2009 from Shang Shung Institute’s School of Tibetan Medicine. He has worked on translations for renowned lamas since 1992, including His Holiness Sakya Trizin, Kyabgön Phakchok Rinpoche, Kunzang Dechen Lingpa, Khenpo Migmar Tseten, Tulku Dakpa Rinpoche, Khenchen Konchog Gyaltsen Rinpoche and many others.

 

Menpa Phuntsog Wangmo

Menpa Phuntsog Wangmo is a practitioner of Traditional Tibetan Medicine, with over 30 years of experience in clinical practice as well as teaching. She received her advanced degree from the Lhasa University School of Traditional Medicine

Menpa Wangmo is the Director of the Shang Shung Institute School of Tibetan Medicine. She teaches Tibetan Medicine around the world, developing programs and teaching students in the USA, Spain, Italy, Russia, and many places.

Menpa Phuntsog Wangmo is the Co-Founder of the American Tibetan Medical Association, ATMA, Tibetan Medicine professional organization.
